A fire broke out at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po at 2:51 pm today (Nov. 26), and was raised to a No. 5 alarm at 6:22 pm.
The fire intensified after nightfall, with flames from one building shooting dozens of meters high. Burning embers carrying sparks continuously fell around the area, accompanied by occasional explosions. Sources indicate that the fire has so far resulted in 13 fatalities and 15 injuries. The deceased includes one firefighter.
The Fire Services Department announced the latest casualty figures at a press conference held in the evening, stating that a total of 28 casualties were handled in the fire. Among them, 9 were unfortunately declared deceased at the scene. Six individuals were transported to the hospital in serious condition, of whom 4 were later confirmed deceased.
The profile pictures and cover photos on the Fire Services Department's website and its Facebook social media page have been changed to black and white.
