A fire broke out at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po at 2:51 pm today (Nov. 26), and was raised to a No. 5 alarm at 6:22 pm. Fire Services Department Director Andy Yeung Yan-kin spoke to reporters outside Prince of Wales Hospital on the evening of Nov. 26 to provide an update on the situation of the deceased officer.
Yeung stated that the firefighter lost contact during rescue operations on the ground floor. He was later found unconscious with burns and was pronounced dead after emergency treatment at the hospital. Additionally, another firefighter was hospitalized due to heat exhaustion.
Yeung explained that the deceased firefighter was stationed at the Sha Tin Fire Station. He arrived at the scene at 3:01 p.m. to conduct rescue operations on the ground floor but lost contact around 3:30 p.m. The Fire Services Department initiated relevant procedures to locate him, and he was found at 4:01 p.m. in an open area near an elevator. At that time, He had facial burns and received first aid from paramedics before being rushed to Prince of Wales Hospital. Medical staff confirmed his death at 4:45 p.m.
Yeung expressed the Fire Services Department's deepest condolences to the firefighter's family. The department's welfare team and psychological counseling unit will provide comprehensive support to his family to help them through this difficult time.
