The 2025 Legislative Council General Election will be held on Dec. 7, and ethnic minority communities are demonstrating a growing sense of civic awareness, actively integrating into Hong Kong's vibrant and multicultural society. They are speaking up more than ever, striving to assert their rights and ensure their voices are heard by the wider community.

Dr. Fakhrul Islam Babu from the local Bangladeshi community shared his life experiences in Hong Kong, expressing a profound connection and commitment to the city. He stressed the significance of civic engagement, stating, "It's my civic duty to vote," and urged more people to recognize the importance of participation. In his office, posters encouraging voting on Dec. 7 are displayed. He actively promotes electoral involvement, emphasizing, "We must vote; every vote counts, every vote is valued." Additionally, he assists ethnic minority community members in registering as voters to help voice their concerns.

Dr. Babu acknowledged that ethnic minorities in Hong Kong still face certain challenges, particularly language barriers, but he remains optimistic about the future: "If we have more opportunities, we can take part in more activities to make a more inclusive and harmonious Hong Kong."

As the Dec. 7 election approaches, Dr. Babu's enthusiasm serves as a reminder of the importance of fulfilling our civic responsibilities. Every voice deserves to be heard, and every vote will play a role in shaping Hong Kong's future.
