As Hong Kong approaches the 2025 Legislative Council General Election, civic engagement is rising, particularly among ethnic minority communities. In this diverse city, these groups are not just bystanders; they actively participate, eager to voice their hopes and cast their votes.
"I'm happy, and my whole family is living in Hong Kong. I feel like Hong Kong is my home.," says Yasin Muhammad, a member of the local ethnic minority community who has made the city his home for nearly 20 years. He, alongside Daniel, who also represents the voices of ethnic minorities, has witnessed a significant shift in attitudes over the years. They express pride in being Hongkongers and highlight their commitment to civic engagement as the upcoming election approaches. "we must vote; because every vote counts, even one vote," Yasin believes, encouraging family and friends to participate as well. Daniel adds, "I will also ask my family members, my friends to go and vote, and let's see, if it can make Hong Kong better for us as well."
Their voices represent a broader narrative of belonging and resilience. These individuals are not just ethnic minorities; they are Hongkongers ready to vote. Their involvement reminds us that a city's future is shaped by everyone, especially those who step forward with hope and a ballot in hand.
