In this special DotDotNews interview, we speak with Ms. Aruna Gurung, Hong Kong’s first Nepali female District Councillor serving in Yau Tsim Mong. A former airline professional turned community advocate, Aruna shares her inspiring journey as an ethnic minority leader dedicated to public service and civic engagement.

Aruna calls on all Hong Kong citizens—especially ethnic minority residents—to actively participate in the upcoming Legislative Council election on December 7. She emphasizes that voting is not just a right, but a civic duty, and everyone should help choose representatives who truly speak for their community.

Believing that language builds bridges and participation empowers people, Aruna encourages ethnic minorities to embrace Cantonese, engage with government policies, and build stronger connections in the community. Her message is one of inclusion, empowerment, and love for Hong Kong—a city she proudly calls home.
