Good news continues to come from the Hong Kong team at the National Games. On the morning of Nov. 17, during the men's 400-meter preliminary rounds held in Guangzhou, Hong Kong athlete Hoho Chan clocked in at 47.09 seconds, achieving a personal best and breaking the Hong Kong record for the men's 400 meters (previously 47.11 seconds). This follows Yip King-wai breaking the Hong Kong men's 100-meter record the day before, marking another new record in athletics for Hong Kong at the National Games.
In an interview with reporters after the race, Chan expressed satisfaction with his performance, even though he did not meet his goal of running under 47 seconds. He noted that in recent years, the Hong Kong athletics scene has received increasing support from the government and society, leading to significant improvements in athletes' performances and providing more opportunities to showcase themselves on larger stages. Speaking about competing right in the Greater Bay Area, Chan said, "It feels very good," highlighting the enthusiastic audience, advanced facilities, and delightful food.
