The swimming competitions of the National Games continued today (Nov. 15), with Hong Kong swimmers delivering remarkable performances in the preliminary rounds.
In the women's 200m backstroke event, HK's rising star Cheung Sum-yuet clocked 2:12.95 to finish third in her heat and sixth overall, securing a spot in the semi-finals. On the men's side, Ho Ian Yentou impressed in the 50m freestyle heats, finishing fifth overall with a time of 22.62 seconds to advance to the evening's semi-finals. Zhejiang's Olympic champion Pan Zhanle also made it through, placing ninth with a time of 22.80 seconds.
However, HK's men's 4x200m freestyle relay team missed out on the finals, finishing with a time of 7:35.44 in the preliminaries.
Siobhan Haughey chases second gold in 100m freestyle final
All eyes will be on HK's "Flying Fish" Siobhan Haughey tonight as she competes in the women's 100m freestyle final at 7:00 p.m. Haughey dominated the semi-finals last night (Nov. 14), finishing first with a time of 53.46 seconds, showcasing her formidable form.
Another highlight of the evening is the men's 200m breaststroke final, where HK's Mak Sai-ting will take on world record holder Qin Haiyang. Mak advanced with a strong performance in the semi-finals, finishing fourth overall with a time of 2:15.35. With a solid performance, he has a chance to clinch a medal for HK.
