In response to the "International Day of Persons with Disabilities - Free Transport Day," multiple public transport operators are offering free rides for persons with disabilities and one accompanying caregiver.
MTR announced that eligible passengers can show one of the valid identification documents today to travel for free on the MTR with one caregiver. Acceptable documents include a disability registration card, a Personalised Octopus, or a JoyYou Card marked with disability status."This offer does not include first-class services on the East Rail Line or high-speed rail.
Kowloon Motor Bus (KMB) and Long Win Bus announced that on this free transport day for persons with disabilities, eligible individuals and one accompanying caregiver can travel for free on most KMB and Long Win bus routes without limit, encouraging both persons with disabilities and their caregivers to travel more and create an inclusive society.
On the event day, eligible persons need only present their Registration Card for People with Disabilities to the bus driver upon boarding, or tap their Personalised Octopus marked with disability status (with a photo) to travel for free on KMB and Long Win routes, except for KMB routes P960, P968, and the "KMB Tour HK" HK1. The accompanying caregiver does not need to tap an Octopus or pay. For disabled passengers using their Personalised Octopus marked with disability status on that day, the fare deducted will be set to $0.
Citybus stated that persons with disabilities can travel for free on all Citybus routes by showing their Registration Card for People with Disabilities to the bus driver or tapping their Personalised Octopus marked with disability status, excluding taxi and employee bus services.
Additionally, Sun Ferry is providing free ferry services to persons with disabilities today. Those holding a Registration Card for People with Disabilities issued by the Labour and Welfare Bureau need only show their document to the staff at the terminal, and both the individual and one accompanying caregiver can board Sun Ferry routes for free, including Central-Cheung Chau (only for standard ferry seats), Central-Mui Wo (only for standard ferry services), and routes Peng Chau-Mui Wo-Chi Ma Wan-Cheung Chau, North Point-Hung Hom, and North Point-Kowloon City.
