Former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced on Nov. 6 local time that she will not seek re-election, marking the end of her nearly 40-year congressional career. In a video titled "Thank You, San Francisco" posted on social media, Pelosi revealed her decision to conclude her service as a congresswoman upon completing her current term in January 2027.

When asked about his reaction to Pelosi's retirement, President Donald Trump responded bluntly: "I think she did the country a great service by retiring," Trump continued. "I think she was a tremendous liability for the country. I thought she was an evil woman who did a poor job, who cost the country a lot in damages and in reputation. I thought she was terrible."

Earlier on the same day, Pelosi indicated her plan to retire in early 2027, coinciding with the end of the current congressional term.

The 85-year-old Pelosi, who began representing California in the House of Representatives in 1987, made history as the first female Speaker of the House, serving two terms from 2007 to 2011 and again from 2019 to 2023. Her congressional career will have spanned nearly 39 years upon her retirement.
