A sculpture of US President Donald Trump in an orange prison jumpsuit, bound to a cross, sparked heated debate after its unveiling in Switzerland last Saturday (Nov. 1).
According to AFP, the work, titled "Saint or Sinner," was created by anonymous London-based artist Mason Storm. The sculpture shows Trump with his eyes closed, wearing a prison uniform, and lying on a tilted, padded white cross. The composition evokes imagery of both crucifixion and an inmate awaiting lethal injection.
The piece, previously exhibited in Vienna, went on display in a storefront window along Basel's Art Boulevard, drawing significant attention and prompting numerous discussions and photos. The organizing gallery, Gleis 4, initially planned to showcase the work inside Basel's central train station but later moved it to the more public window display on Art Boulevard.
Konrad Breznik, director of Gleis 4 gallery, remarked, "Its realism is what makes it so shocking." Mason Storm's work is known for its focus on social satire.
