Today (Nov. 3), police announced that the Kwai Tsing Police District recently took action and successfully cracked a major drug trafficking case, seizing drugs valued at over HK$6.2 million and arresting a local man. The police urged citizens not to take risks in pursuit of "quick money," which could jeopardize their future.

An inspector of the Kwai Tsing Police District's Special Duties Unit stated that, following an in-depth investigation and intelligence analysis, officers discovered a suspicious 54-year-old local man in an open parking lot on Container Port Road South, Tsing Yi, on the evening of Nov. 1. The man was seen opening the trunk of a silver abandoned vehicle, prompting officers to approach and conduct a search.

During the investigation, officers found four packages, each weighing approximately 1 kilogram, of suspected ketamine in the trunk of the vehicle, as well as two bricks weighing about 2.2 kilograms of suspected cocaine, totaling around 6.2 kilograms of drugs. The man was immediately arrested for the offense of "trafficking dangerous drugs."

Subsequently, police took the arrested man to another open parking lot on Tsing Yi Road for further investigation. During the operation, officers discovered another 17 packages, weighing approximately 4.3 kilograms of suspected ketamine, inside another white abandoned vehicle. The man was additionally charged with another count of "trafficking dangerous drugs" related to this batch of drugs.

The total amount of drugs seized in this operation was approximately 10 kilograms, including cocaine and ketamine, with an estimated value of up to HK$6.2 million.

It is understood that the arrested man, aged 54 and unemployed, is currently in police custody. He is expected to be provisionally charged with two counts of "trafficking dangerous drugs," with the case scheduled to be brought before the West Kowloon Magistrates' Court tomorrow (Nov. 4). Preliminary investigations suggest that the arrested man was recruited by a drug trafficking group as a puppet, responsible for handling and storing drugs in his pursuit of "quick money."

The inspector emphasized that drug trafficking is a one-way street that ultimately harms both the trafficker and others, causing pain to family and friends. She urged citizens not to take risks with their personal futures by participating in drug trafficking activities in pursuit of "quick money."

The police reiterated that drug trafficking is a serious crime. Under Hong Kong's Dangerous Drugs Ordinance (Chapter 134), a conviction can result in a fine of up to HK$5 million and life imprisonment. Citizens who witness any suspicious drug trafficking activities should report them to the police immediately.
