US conducts first Pacific strike on suspected drug smuggling vessel, two killed. US Secretary of Defense Hegseth announced on social media that on Oct. 21, under the direction of President Trump, the U.S. Department of Defense (now renamed the War Department) carried out a "lethal kinetic strike" on a vessel operated by a terrorist organization and involved in drug trafficking in the Pacific.
Hegseth stated that the vessel was suspected of illegal drug smuggling, traveling along a drug trafficking route, and carrying narcotics. The strike took place in international waters, resulting in the deaths of two terrorists on board, with no U.S. personnel injured. He also emphasized that drug cartels are waging a war against the US border.
