A dramatic incident in Turkey captured on video shows a security guard pulling a woman to safety moments before she would have been hit by an approaching tram.

The near-accident occurred on Oct. 14 in the central Turkish city of Kayseri. Closed-circuit television footage released by the local tram company shows the woman, wearing headphones and looking at her phone, standing by the tracks. As she begins to cross, she fails to hear the tram's warning signals due to her headphones.

In a split-second rescue, security guard Ayhan Akkis, stationed nearby, swiftly reaches out and pulls the woman back onto the sidewalk. The force of the action causes her to stumble and fall, but it successfully removes her from the path of the tram.

Following the incident, Akkis was honored with a certificate of appreciation from local authorities for "exemplarily performing his security duties and demonstrating a sense of responsibility and humanitarian spirit."
