What we see before us is an artistic masterpiece that serves as the crowning touch of the Forbidden City's Imperial Garden—the caisson ceiling. The term "caisson" originates from the decorative beauty of "藻" (zǎo), meaning ornamental design, and the structural form of "井" (jǐng), meaning well. Its structure follows traditional "mortise and tenon" craftsmanship using no nails or metal components. It is entirely supported by layers of bracket sets (dougong) that spiral inward. A magnificent flower is blooming upside down on the ceiling.
