The Hong Kong Observatory stated that the tropical cyclone Matmo, located in the waters east of the Philippines, is expected to cross Luzon tomorrow (Oct. 3) and later enter within 800 kilometers of Hong Kong. The Observatory will consider issuing a standby signal No. 1 tomorrow evening.

According to current forecasts, Matmo is expected to generally move toward the western coast of Guangdong and the eastern part of Hainan Island over the weekend and gradually strengthen. From late Saturday (Oct. 4) to Sunday (Oct. 5), the weather in Hong Kong will become increasingly unstable, with strong winds, rough seas, and occasional heavy rain and squalls. The Observatory will assess the need to issue a higher tropical cyclone warning signal during the day on Saturday, depending on Matmo's distance from the Pearl River Estuary, its intensity, and changes in local wind conditions.
