The China Meteorological Administration (CMA) announced today (Sept. 28) at a regular press conference that it is expected that 4 to 6 tropical cyclones will form in the Northwest Pacific and South China Sea in October, with 1 to 2 potentially affecting coastal areas of China. As of 10 am today, strong winds and heavy rain were reported in Sansha City, Hainan Province, due to the influence of Typhoon Bualoi.

The CMA noted that, as of September 27, there have been 6 typhoons generated in the Northwest Pacific and South China Sea since the beginning of September, which is 1.3 more than the average for this time of year. Among these, 3 made landfall in China, which is 1.4 more than the average. In early to mid-September, the 16th typhoon Tapah and the 17th typhoon Mitag both made landfall in Guangdong as strong tropical storms. The 18th typhoon Ragasa made landfall in Guangdong and Guangxi on September 24 and 25, characterized by its strong intensity and wide wind field. Currently, the 20th typhoon Bualoi is passing over the waters south of Hainan Island, bringing strong winds and rain to Hainan and southern Guangxi.
