According to reports from China News Service, this year's 20th typhoon, Bualoi, is making a direct hit on Sansha City in Hainan Province.
The Sansha Meteorological Station forecasts that Bualoi will pass through waters approximately 60 kilometers south of Jinqing Island between the evening of Sept. 27 and the early morning of Sept. 28. As of 3 p.m. on Sept. 27, a Level I emergency response for flood and wind prevention has been activated throughout Sansha City. Meteorological monitoring indicates that from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sept. 27, islands and reefs in the Paracel Islands have generally experienced gusts of winds ranging from level 8 to 11.
Additionally, under the guidance of the Sanya Civil Aviation Administration, Sanya Phoenix International Airport, in coordination with air traffic control units and various airlines, has decided to suspend all flight takeoffs and landings starting at 9 a.m. on September 28, 2025, with flights expected to resume at 9 p.m. on the same day.
The Sansha Maritime Safety Administration reported that before the arrival of the typhoon, tourist vessels and supply ships in the Xisha area had suspended operations, and inter-island transportation boats and small tourist vessels had been lifted ashore. Currently, the "Nanhai Rescue 115" rescue ship is on standby within the Yongle Reef to respond to emergencies.
To defend against Bualoi, various islands and reefs in Sansha City have conducted early inspections for potential hazards, reinforced windows and doors, and relocated residents. On Yongxing Island, the location of the Sansha City government, staff are trimming branches and stacking sandbags in areas prone to flooding. Emergency power generation vehicles from the China Southern Power Grid are on standby to ensure residents' electricity needs. As of 4 p.m., a total of 685 people have been relocated in Sansha City.
The Hainan Provincial Meteorological Station predicts that after passing through the waters near the Paracel Islands, Bualoi will move past the southern coast of Hainan Island at typhoon strength during the daytime on Sept. 28, and is expected to make landfall along the central-northern coast of Vietnam in the evening to nighttime of the same day.
