To facilitate public travel during the National Day holiday on Oct. 1 and the Mid-Autumn Festival on Oct. 6, the MTR announced a series of service enhancements from today until Oct. 8, including increased train frequencies and overnight services on festival night.
With various celebratory events, including a fireworks display over Victoria Harbour scheduled for National Day, seven railway lines will operate with increased frequencies at different times throughout the day, particularly during the afternoon and evening. The affected lines include the Island Line, Tsuen Wan Line, Kwun Tong Line, South Island Line, Tung Chung Line, East Rail Line, and Tuen Ma Line.
Anticipating higher cross-boundary passenger traffic during the Mainland's National Day "Golden Week," the East Rail Line will see more frequent northbound and southbound services on specific days and times between Sept. 26 and Oct. 8.
For High Speed Rail (HSR) services, following coordination with mainland authorities, 13 additional pairs of short-haul trains will be added daily from Oct. 1 to 8. Notably, on Oct. 4, 120 pairs of trains will operate between West Kowloon Station and mainland destinations, marking the highest single-day frequency since the Hong Kong section of the HSR began service. Sleeper train services to Beijing and Shanghai will also be enhanced on selected days.
As many residents are expected to leave work early on the Mid-Autumn Festival day (Oct. 6), local railway lines (excluding the Airport Express and Disneyland Resort Line) will begin strengthening services from 3:00 pm, implementing peak-hour schedules earlier than usual.
On the night of the Mid-Autumn Festival, all local heavy rail lines (except the Airport Express, Disneyland Resort Line, and the East Rail Line services to Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau) and seven Light Rail routes will provide overnight services. MTR Bus routes 506, K51, and K54A will also have extended operating hours to support residents traveling for moon-viewing celebrations.
