Super Typhoon Ragasa is hitting Hong Kong. The MTR announced today (Sept. 22) that, in response to the Hong Kong Observatory's forecast of significant weather impacts from Typhoon Ragasa, services will generally remain normal when the No. 8 tropical cyclone warning signal is in effect. MTR buses will suspend operations three hours after the No. 8 signal is issued.

When the No. 9 signal or higher is in effect, services on the heavy rail outdoor sections, including the entire Airport Express, parts of the East Rail Line, and the Tuen Ma Line, as well as the Light Rail, will be suspended. Trains currently in service on outdoor sections will continue to operate safely to their designated terminal stations or to stations with access to shopping malls, which are relatively safe. During the typhoon, all stations will strive to remain open during service hours.
The MTR stated that, depending on the actual situation, even if the No. 8 signal is gradually lifted, the operations team may require additional time to inspect railway equipment and complete all necessary repairs before gradually resuming train services. They emphasized that they will work as quickly as possible and provide updates on service status.

The MTR has enhanced inspections of flood prevention equipment, drainage systems, and nearby channels at stations and railway facilities. Repair teams are on standby to carry out cleaning and urgent repair work. For MTR-managed estates and shopping malls, a series of windproof measures have been implemented, such as inspecting and clearing all drainage channels to ensure they are unobstructed, and placing sandbags in appropriate locations. This includes the residential buildings in Heng Fa Chuen on Hong Kong Island, where 28 residential blocks in lower Heng Fa Chuen have installed flood gates and temporary pumping facilities in the lobby. Vehicles in the basement parking lot of the estate will also be temporarily relocated to the parking lot in Paradise Mall or to upper Heng Fa Chuen.
