Hong Kong's MTR Corporation has announced that its pilot "Cat/Dog Carrying" Scheme for the Light Rail will become a regular service starting next month. The program allows passengers to bring cats and dogs on Light Rail trains, adhering to existing guidelines.
Guidelines include boarding and alighting only via the last door, staying at the rear of the train during the journey, and keeping pets fully enclosed in carriers. The service will continue to be available exclusively on weekends and public holidays.
The September "Cat/Dog Carrying Pass" will go on sale starting this Saturday (Aug. 23) via the MTR Mobile app. Since the trial began over three months ago, more than 1,300 passengers have purchased the pass, with over 95% of surveyed participants giving positive feedback about the program.

As part of the trial, MTR invited volunteers from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and the Animals Asia Foundation to observe pet owners, their pets, and fellow passengers using the service. The findings showed that over 90% of pet owners adhered to the program's rules, including traveling during designated times, using specified boarding areas, and following the required pet handling methods. The pets were generally calm during the ride and coexisted harmoniously with other passengers.
