The super typhoon Ragasa has caused severe damage in Hualien, Taiwan, bringing heavy rain and strong winds to all areas it passed through. In Guangfu Township, a dam overflow occurred at 2:50 pm on Sept. 23, leading to the destruction of the Ma'an Xi bridge by the raging waters and causing the embankment to collapse. Subsequently, muddy water flowed down the river, flooding Guangfu City, resulting in serious inundation in the township.
According to reports from the China News Service, citing the Taiwan Disaster Response Center, as of 6 am on Sept. 24, typhoon Ragasa has resulted in 14 deaths, multiple people missing, 18 injuries, and hundreds trapped and awaiting rescue.
Taiwan's meteorological department reported that on Sept. 22, the typhoon's wind circle entered Taitung, Hengchun Peninsula, and Pingtung, and it exited the wind circle by noon on Sept. 23, with the marine typhoon warning lifted that evening. The outer circulation of Ragasa continues to affect the eastern, northern, and southern coastal regions of Taiwan, bringing intense rainfall.
Additionally, reports indicate that Ragasa has caused power outages for 14,017 households in Taiwan, with 2,015 households awaiting restoration. In Hualien County, there were previously 2,871 households without power, with 1,696 awaiting repairs; 4,378 households in Taiwan are currently without water. A total of 51 areas in Taiwan are experiencing flooding, with 46 still submerged, primarily concentrated in Guangfu and Fenglin in Hualien County.
