Ragasa intensified into a super typhoon yesterday (Sept. 21) and is heading directly for Hong Kong. It is expected that when it comes closest to Hong Kong on Wednesday, wind speeds near the center will reach 220 kilometers per hour, equivalent to a Category 12 typhoon.
Recently, internet users have posted that some stores have run out of tape, reminding everyone to "be prepared this time! Some places are sold out, so buy early!!!"
On Sept. 18, a user posted on the social media platform Threads with the title "Typhoon," stating, "Everyone says the wind will be very strong next week, so remember to buy tape to stick on the windows! My uncle also taught me not to stick it in an 'X' shape, but in a '井' shape—when 'Mangkhut' hit, it was really scary." That evening, the user uploaded a photo of empty shelves, saying, "Some places are sold out, so buy early!!!" In the comments, they admitted, "I bought mine at a hardware store."
After seeing the post, netizens commented, "You really need to buy it in advance!!," "Early purchase means early enjoyment, late purchase means paying more… last time it was crazy with tape prices," and "If you tape the glass, it reduces the harm from shards to people and pets inside when it breaks." Some users mentioned the shape of the tape, saying, "The most important thing is the center point; I suggest a '米' shape, and adding a '井' shape is also fine." As for concerns about removing the tape leaving marks, one user suggested using alcohol or white spirit to handle it.
