The Hong Kong Observatory issued a special weather warning at 8:30 am today (Aug. 6), stating that a strong thunderstorm system located west of the Pearl River Estuary is gradually moving eastward and is expected to affect Hong Kong starting this morning. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are anticipated around noon. The Observatory advises citizens to pay attention to changing weather conditions.

The Observatory indicated that the active southwest monsoon and upper-level disturbances are bringing heavy rain and thunderstorms to the southern coast of China. Today's forecast includes cloudy skies with occasional heavy rain and several thunderstorms, with daytime temperatures reaching around 29 degrees Celsius. The Observatory expects that as the southwest monsoon eases and the upper-level disturbances weaken, the occurrence of showers along the coastal areas will gradually decrease later this week. Meanwhile, influenced by an upper-level anticyclone, the weather in southern China will improve and become hot.

Additionally, the Observatory noted that a low-pressure area will bring unstable weather to the waters east of the Philippines and is expected to move toward the Luzon area later this week, with the possibility of entering the South China Sea. However, its intensity and path remain uncertain.
