At 10:25 a.m. today (Aug. 4), the Hong Kong Observatory reissued an Amber Rainstorm Warning, stating that thunderstorms associated with the active southwest monsoon are developing over the region. Widespread areas of HK may experience heavy rain in the next one to two hours, and residents are advised to stay alert.
The Observatory noted that the active southwest monsoon is bringing thunderstorms to the coastal areas of southern China and the northern part of the South China Sea. This morning, many areas in HK recorded over 30 millimeters of rainfall, with parts of Kowloon and eastern New Territories exceeding 70 millimeters.
The weather forecast for today predicts mostly cloudy skies with showers and isolated thunderstorms, some of which may be heavy. Moderate to fresh southwesterly winds are expected, occasionally strong offshore and on high ground.
For tomorrow, unsettled weather will persist, with heavy rain and thunderstorms at times. Showers are expected to ease gradually mid to late this week, with hotter weather forecast to follow.
