Typhoon Wipha is gradually moving away from Hong Kong, and the wind strength in the region is also diminishing. The Hong Kong Observatory upgraded the warning at 4:10 pm today (July 20) to Gale or Storm Signal No.8. As the wind continues to weaken, the Observatory is considering issuing a Strong Wind Signal No. 3 between 7 pm and 9 pm.
The Observatory indicated that the strong rainbands from Wipha are bringing severe winds and heavy rain to Hong Kong. There are still large waves and surges at sea, so citizens are advised to remain highly vigilant, keep away from the shore, and refrain from water activities. Strong winds will continue in the area, and residents are urged to stay indoors until the wind subsides, without relaxing their precautionary measures.
