As Typhoon Wipha approaches, the Hong Kong Observatory issued the Hurricane No. 10 Signal at 9:20 am. The Airport Authority stated that approximately 400 flights will need to reschedule their takeoff and landing times today (July 20), affecting around 80,000 passengers. Flights are expected to gradually resume around 1 or 2 pm, and the airport is anticipated to be very busy tonight. If a No. 8 signal or higher remains in effect, flights will continue to be delayed. The Airport Authority urges passengers to contact their airlines in advance and to allow sufficient time to reach the airport.

Chris Au Young, General Manager, Innovation & Data Insights of AAHK, reported that from midnight last night until 6 am today, 36 flights brought over 3,000 passengers to the airport, and their stay was well-organized. The airport railway resumed operation at 5:54 am, allowing most arriving passengers to leave the airport before 6 am.

Au Young also noted that after the Observatory issued the No. 8 signal last night, airport operations remained normal. The Airport Authority has deployed an additional 1,000 staff members and mobilized over 80 employees to distribute water, blankets, and food to passengers. Approximately 800 taxis have been picking up passengers at the airport from last night until this morning, and according to the electronic queue system, the average waiting time for taxis is 30 minutes, not exceeding 60 minutes.
