Chinese automaker BYD celebrated a significant milestone on Monday (July 7) with the delivery of its 90,000th new energy vehicle (NEV) in Thailand, coinciding with the first anniversary of its production facility in Rayong province.

Wang Chuanfu, chairman and president of BYD Co., Ltd., presented the milestone vehicle to Nualphan Lamsam, president of the Football Association of Thailand.

Additionally, the company introduced the first locally manufactured BYD SEAL 5, a plug-in hybrid model produced at the Rayong factory.

"BYD's achievements in Thailand reflect the country's dedication to advancing its electric vehicle sector," stated Sumet Tangprasert, acting governor of the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT).

Liu Xueliang, general manager of BYD's Asia-Pacific Auto Sales Division, emphasized the company's goal to deliver cutting-edge technology and quality products to Thai consumers while fostering community connections through job creation, disaster relief efforts, and energy initiatives.

Since entering the Thai market in 2022, BYD has quickly established itself as a leading EV brand in the country. The Rayong facility now employs over 6,100 Thai workers, with local staff making up more than 90 percent of the workforce. The plant has an annual production capacity of 150,000 units and has achieved full localization of its manufacturing processes.

The delivery of the 90,000th vehicle coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand.
