The world's largest car carrier by capacity, "BYD SHENZHEN," set sail on its maiden voyage on the evening of April 27, carrying over 7,000 BYD electric vehicles (EVs) from Jiangsu, China, to Brazil. The voyage, which will take more than 30 days to complete, marks a significant milestone in China's advancement toward self-operated auto transportation.

Built by a shipyard under China Merchants Group, the "BYD SHENZHEN" measures 219.9 meters in length and 37.7 meters in width. It boasts 16 decks and a capacity of 9,200 standard car units. The vessel is equipped with the latest LNG dual-fuel clean energy technology, alongside green shipping innovations such as a high-efficiency energy-saving main engine, shaft generator, high-voltage shore power system, and a BOG (Boil-Off Gas) recondenser system.

Additionally, the ship features energy-saving devices and antifouling paint to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions, fully complying with the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) latest environmental standards. Its advanced loading system and protective technologies ensure efficient and safe vehicle transport.

"BYD SHENZHEN" is the fourth specialized EV carrier in BYD's fleet. It departed from Taicang Port in Jiangsu Province on April 27, heading for Itajaí Port in Brazil.

According to industry data, over 700 specialized automobile carriers are currently operational worldwide, with the majority controlled by companies from Europe, Japan, and South Korea. China's auto shipping capacity accounts for just 2.63% of the global total. However, in recent years, Chinese automakers like BYD, Chery, and SAIC have actively developed their own fleets. In the first quarter of this year alone, BYD's roll-on/roll-off ships transported more than 25,000 EVs overseas.

Industry experts note that shipping costs play a significant role in determining end-user vehicle prices. By building and operating their own fleets, Chinese automakers can secure greater autonomy, cost efficiency, and competitiveness in the global market.
