
On June 30, marking the fifth anniversary of the Hong Kong National Security Law and the establishment of the Office for Safeguarding National Security of the Central People's Government in Hong Kong, a flag-raising ceremony was held this morning. Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee sent a congratulatory letter, and Dong Jingwei, the Director of the Office for Safeguarding National Security, attended and delivered a speech.
In his letter, John Lee emphasized that over the past five years, the Office has diligently adhered to the Hong Kong National Security Law, supervising and supporting the SAR government in its national security duties. He expressed gratitude for the Office's robust support, significant contributions, and selfless dedication, affirming that the SAR government will collaborate closely with the central government to overcome challenges and serve the nation.
In his speech, Dong Jingwei noted that the Hong Kong National Security Law represents a crucial milestone in the "one country, two systems" framework. He stated that Hong Kong has transitioned from chaos to order and is now entering a pivotal phase for new developments. The Office remains committed to upholding national security, implementing the law, mitigating risks, and ensuring development, while continuing to work with the SAR to enhance security and support Hong Kong's high-quality progress.
Nearly 150 members from the Office participated in the ceremony, which was attended by various officials, including Chief Secretary Eric Chan, Secretary for Security Chris Tang, Secretary-General Sonny Au, Commissioner of Police Joe Chow, and Deputy Commissioner Andrew Kan.
