Chief Executive John Lee met with reporters today (June 24) before the Executive Council meeting. Lee stated that Xia Baolong, Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, clearly pointed out during a keynote speech at the forum marking the fifth anniversary of the implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law that anti-China forces remain active in Hong Kong, and "soft resistance" still exists.
Lee provided an example, noting that recently someone impersonated another person to register in the organ transplant registration system, pretending to cancel that person's registration, creating the illusion that many wanted to withdraw from the system—this is an example of "soft resistance." He emphasized that "soft resistance" exists in various fields.
Lee stated that Xia mentioned, "Do not forget the pain after the wound has healed," indicating that the existence of "soft resistance" is real and may lurk in different areas and places.
"Some exist under various pretenses, appearing benign while intentionally endangering national security or engaging in destructive 'soft resistance.' In facing these diverse circumstances, citizens need to remain vigilant," he said.
