Chief Executive John Lee met with reporters today (June 24) before the Executive Council meeting. Discussing the recent situation in the Middle East, Lee stated that the HKSAR government aligns with the national position and advocates for resolving disputes peacefully. The government has raised the travel alert level for Israel and Iran to black, advising citizens against traveling to those countries.

Lee noted that a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged conflicting parties to prevent further escalation and resolutely avoid the spread of war, returning to a political resolution. China is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with all parties, consolidating efforts to uphold justice and play a constructive role in restoring peace in the Middle East. Lee emphasized that the HKSAR supports the national stance, prioritizes civilian safety, and seeks to resolve issues through diplomatic means. He also called on the international community to work together to maintain world peace and expressed hope for a quick restoration of peace and stability in the Middle East.

In light of the latest developments regarding Israel and Iran, Lee pointed out that the HKSAR government raised the travel alert level to black last week, advising residents to avoid traveling to Israel and Iran, pay attention to personal safety, and leave or move to relatively safe areas immediately.

Lee mentioned that as of June 23, the Immigration Department received inquiries from 21 Hong Kong residents in Israel or Iran, of which 20 have safely departed. The Immigration Department will continue to maintain close contact with the remaining residents and provide appropriate assistance. The Security Bureau will closely monitor the situation and will issue updates immediately.
