Xia Baolong, Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, will visit HK from June 18 to 22. During his five-day visit, Xia will attend the 5th Anniversary Forum of the Hong Kong National Security Law organized by the HKSAR Government. He will also conduct an inspection to study the latest developments in HK's economy and society.

John Lee expresses gratitude to Xia Baolong

HKSAR Chief Executive John Lee expressed his appreciation for Xia Baolong's consistent attention to and support for HK. Lee warmly welcomed Xia's participation in the forum and inspection activities, emphasizing that the HKSAR Government will fully cooperate to ensure the visit's success.

Speaking to the media before the Executive Council meeting yesterday (June 17), Lee highlighted Xia's familiarity with HK and his focus on the city's economic and social development. Lee noted that Xia's attendance at the forum reflects his commitment to the implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law. He added, "Xia values both security and development. I believe his visit will encompass research and inspection in both areas."

The Hong Kong National Security Law was implemented on June 30, 2020. As the law approaches its 5th anniversary, it continues to work in tandem with the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance enacted last year. Together, these laws form a robust legal framework for safeguarding national security in the city.

Forum to reflect and look forward

The 5th Anniversary Forum will take place on Saturday, June 21, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., aiming to review the law's implementation, highlight its achievements, and promote awareness of national security among the public.

According to a promotional leaflet released by the Department of Justice, the forum will be divided into morning and afternoon sessions. The morning session will feature keynote speeches, three award ceremonies, and the launch of a new initiative.

The afternoon session will comprise two panel discussions, which will review the legislative intent and background of the Hong Kong National Security Law, discuss its synergy with local laws, and explore its future development. The discussions will also feature an interactive dialogue between Secretary for Justice Paul Lam and youth leaders from various sectors, focusing on the critical role of young people in safeguarding national security and promoting public legal education.
