The MTR Corporation has announced a half-price "Thank You Day" on July 13 as compensation under its fare adjustment mechanism following a power and signal system failure on the Tseung Kwan O Line on May 22. On this day, all passengers can enjoy 50% off fares on MTR services.
In addition, passengers who entered or exited stations along the Tseung Kwan O Line using Octopus cards between May 18 and June 15 will receive an additional free local MTR trip. Eligible passengers must link their Octopus card to the MTR Mobile app and register as members by June 15 to claim this offer.
The half-price fare on July 13 applies to MTR, Light Rail, and MTR buses serving the Northwest New Territories. It also includes cross-border trips to Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau stations on the East Rail Line. Passengers can combine this discount with other offers, such as interchange discounts, concessionary fares at designated stations, and the 25% discount for trips linked to the Monthly Pass.
The half-price promotion does not apply to the First-Class compartments of the East Rail Line, the Airport Express, MTR feeder buses, or trips paid with contactless credit or debit cards.
To assist passengers, the MTR will deploy additional staff at stations on July 13 to manage operations and monitor train services. Adjustments to train frequency and staffing will be made as needed.
To help Tseung Kwan O Line passengers access their complimentary local trip, the MTR will set up passenger information stations at Tseung Kwan O, Tiu Keng Leng, Hang Hau, and North Point stations. These stations will operate from June 6 to 8 and June 13 to 15, between 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., to assist with MTR Mobile downloads and Octopus card linking.
