Billionaire Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, recently made headlines during an interview with Fox News. When asked if he regretted his involvement in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) or his support for President Trump, he unexpectedly blurted out "Yes," only to quickly correct himself, saying, "No," and requested that the segment be cut. Notably, the interviewer was Lara Trump, the wife of Donald Trump.
Later, when asked about the backlash from his position in the efficiency department, Musk remarked, "At least I didn't get shot, you know. Look on the bright side."
Musk is seen as a close ally of Trump and has led the efficiency department, helping to significantly reduce federal spending and cut federal jobs. The White House stated in February that Musk's designation was as a "special government employee." According to regulations, as a special government employee, he cannot serve more than 130 days in a year. This means that starting from January 20, Musk's term will end no later than the end of May. If only business days are counted, his term could end by July.
Additionally, during a company earnings call on April 22, Musk mentioned that he would reduce his time working in the efficiency department. He stated that starting in May, he would significantly decrease his management time and focus more on Tesla. He also indicated that he would continue to spend a day or two each week on government matters to ensure that waste and fraud do not resurface.
Recently, there have been frequent changes regarding Musk's role in the efficiency department. The New York Post reported on April 29, citing White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, that Musk no longer works in person at the White House and is preparing to resign from his official position in the efficiency department.
