Tesla Chair Robyn Denholm on Thursday (May 1) said the media report on board members seeking recruitment firms to look for a new CEO to replace Elon Musk was "absolutely false". She also reiterated the board's confidence in Musk's leadership and his ability to deliver on Tesla's ambitious growth strategy.
The clarification comes after The Wall Street Journal published a report on April 30, citing unnamed sources, which claimed that Tesla's board had begun seriously considering a search for Musk's successor.
According to the report, the decision was allegedly driven by Tesla's declining stock price and dissatisfaction among some investors over Musk's recent focus on political matters, including his interactions with the White House. The article also alleged that board members had reached out to several executive search firms to explore potential candidates for the role of Tesla's next CEO.
