According to the New York Post on April 29, the White House chief of staff, Susan Summerall Wiles, said that the US Department of Government Efficiency lead, Elon Musk, is no longer working in the White House entity at the moment.
The report said Musk was preparing to step down from his official duties at the Department of Government Efficiency, which is just steps away from the White House Oval Office. In an interview with the New York Post, Wiles said, "I don't see him in person, we talk on the phone instead, but the effect is the same." She noted that Musk's team continues to work in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building on the west side of the White House. "His people are not going anywhere."
The US White House said in February that Musk's status is that of a "Special Government Employee" and that, according to the relevant regulations, Musk cannot serve more than 130 days in a year. If counting from January 20, Musk's term will end at the end of May at the latest, but if only counting working days, his term will end in July at the latest. Musk said on April 22 that he would spend less time at the Department of Governmental Efficiency and devote more time to Tesla.
