Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun, during a regular press briefing today (April 23), responded to claims made by Panamanian media criticizing US interference in Central America, particularly in Panama. The media accused the US of using the fabricated "China threat" narrative to justify its control over the Panama Canal and establish a long-term military presence in the country. The reports further warned that such actions could result in military intervention and economic exploitation, ultimately harming Panama's interests.

Guo said that the Panamanian media's observations "hit the nail on the head" in exposing the essence of US hegemonic behavior. He added, "The US fabricates lies about so-called 'Chinese control of the Panama Canal' and resorts to malicious attacks on China. This is nothing more than an excuse for its expansionist agenda and pursuit of American-style hegemony under the guise of the Monroe Doctrine. The international community and the Panamanian people are well aware of this."

Guo further stated, "No amount of lies can conceal the US's ambitions to control the Panama Canal. We once again urge the US to stop manipulating issues related to China, stop slandering and attacking China, and stop interfering in the normal exchanges and cooperation between China and Latin American countries, including Panama. The US should focus on actions that genuinely contribute to the development and prosperity of the region and the world."
