On April 18, China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded to the US decision to impose additional port fees on Chinese-built or operated vessels docking at American ports. During a regular press briefing, spokesperson Lin Jian addressed a question from a Bloomberg reporter about the policy announced by the Trump administration.

Lin reiterated China's position on such trade measures, emphasizing their negative consequences on global trade and economic stability. "I would like to stress once again that imposing port fees or additional tariffs on cargo-handling equipment is self-defeating," Lin said. "These actions not only drive up global shipping costs and disrupt the stability of global supply chains, but also increase inflationary pressures within the US, harming American consumers and businesses. Ultimately, such measures will fail to revitalize the US shipbuilding industry."

Lin urged the US to respect facts and adhere to multilateral trade rules, calling for an immediate halt to these "erroneous practices." He also warned that China would take necessary steps to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests if the US proceeds with the policy.
