At a regular press briefing on April 18, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian responded to comments reportedly made by newly appointed U.S. Ambassador to Japan, George Glass, who, upon arriving in Japan, stated that the U.S. and Japan needed to "work together to counter China."
When asked by a Reuters reporter about China's stance, Lin said: "I have not seen the specific remarks you mentioned, but I would like to point out that the duty of a diplomat is to promote mutual understanding and friendship between nations—not to smear others, stir up confrontation, or incite hostility."
Lin emphasized that China has always been a force for peace, stability, and progress in the international community.
He added: "Who is displaying military might, provoking confrontations, and threatening peace? The international community sees this very clearly."
The remarks come amid rising tensions in the Asia-Pacific and increasing coordination between the U.S. and its regional allies.
