Yesterday (April 15) marked "2025 National Security Education Day". Director of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office, Xia Baolong, delivered a keynote speech via video at the opening ceremony, reflecting on the journey of safeguarding national security in Hong Kong over the past decade, analyzing current challenges, and providing clear directions for Hong Kong's future development and national security efforts.

Rosanna Law stated today (April 16) on social media that Xia's speech was clear, powerful, and inspiring. Xia pointed out that Hong Kong's transition from chaos to order and its progress towards prosperity over the past decade have been extraordinary and unusual. Hong Kong must remember the lessons from the 2019 turmoil, always remain vigilant, learn from past mistakes, and keep the alarm bell ringing. The current positive situation in Hong Kong has come at a great cost, and everyone should cherish it and work to consolidate and develop this good state.

Law mentioned that both Xia and Chief Executive John Lee addressed the recent bullying actions by the United States against Hong Kong in their speeches. In fact, Hong Kong China is a founding member of the World Trade Organization and has consistently upheld free trade with a zero-tariff policy. If the U.S. intends to implement trade equality with Hong Kong, it should set tariffs to zero.
Law pointed out that the current international situation is complex and ever-changing. Xia's speech has provided direction for Hong Kong, reminding everyone to learn from history, remain cautious in times of peace, safeguard Hong Kong and the nation, and create a high-level security environment to support high-quality development, advancing the practice of "one country, two systems" steadily and far.
Law also noted that national security encompasses twenty areas, which are crucial for Hong Kong's long-term development. Among them, cultural security is an indispensable part of national security, serving as a pillar of national spirit and maintaining social cohesion and stability. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the War of Resistance, and the authorities will hold a series of thematic exhibitions and public education activities to help citizens gain a deeper understanding of the essence of Chinese culture, enhance cultural confidence and patriotism, inherit excellent traditional Chinese culture, and strengthen the sense of responsibility for safeguarding national security, contributing to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, long-term stability of the country, and prosperity and stability of Hong Kong.
