Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs Alice Mak visited the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on April 15 to meet with members of the CUHK student flag-guard team. During the exchange, Mak listened to the team's account of its development journey and discussed youth-related issues with the members.

Established in 2023 as a branch of the Hong Kong Youth Corps at the university, the CUHK student flag-guard team shared their experiences of joining the team and representing the institution in national flag-raising competitions. Members emphasized that rigorous training not only fostered teamwork and a sense of belonging but also deepened their identification with their national identity.

Mak praised the students, stating, "Hong Kong youth are a vital force in safeguarding national sovereignty and maintaining the city's prosperity and stability." She expressed hope that more students would join the national flag guard to contribute to the nation and Hong Kong.

The visit underscores the government's ongoing efforts to promote patriotism and youth engagement, aligning with broader initiatives to strengthen national education in Hong Kong's academic institutions.
