
At 10:09 p.m. on April 3, a magnitude 6.6 earthquake struck the Reykjanes Ridge in the Atlantic Ocean, according to the official measurement by the China Earthquake Networks Center. The earthquake had a focal depth of 10 kilometers, with the epicenter located at a latitude of 52.70°N and a longitude of 31.95°W.
The Reykjanes Peninsula, located in the southwest of Iceland near the capital Reykjavík, is part of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, which separates the Eurasian Plate and the North American Plate.
Recent reports indicate that magma eruptions have been observed beneath the ground near Reykjavík, with hundreds of minor earthquakes recorded in the area in recent days.
