
According to Taiwan's weather bureau, a magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck off the coast of Hualien County at 9:40 a.m. local time on March 25. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 25.3 kilometers.
Local media reported that tremors were felt in at least 16 cities and counties across the island, including Hualien, Nantou, Yilan, Taichung, Changhua, Taitung, and Tainan.
Taiwan's weather bureau has warned that aftershocks with magnitudes ranging from 4.0 to 4.5 are likely to occur over the next three days. Residents have been advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
The China Earthquake Networks Center also confirmed the event, reporting a 4.2-magnitude earthquake in the waters off Hualien County (latitude 23.96°N, longitude 121.67°E) at a depth of 30 kilometers.
