This morning (March 23) at 9:35 AM, a private car was traveling along Dumbarton Road when it suddenly began emitting smoke and caught fire near Munsang College. The driver quickly pulled over, exited the vehicle, and called the police for help.
Firefighters arrived on the scene to extinguish the fire, successfully putting it out by 9:55 AM. Fortunately, no one was injured, and the cause of the incident is under investigation.
Videos and photos shared online show the involved vehicle stopped at an intersection, with flames and thick smoke rising from the front. Netizens identified the burning car as a classic Mercedes-Benz model from the W126 series. The owner, a car enthusiast, recalled purchasing the vehicle in 1979 for HK$170,000. Over the past 45 years, he has regularly driven the classic car on the highway for leisure, and it has always passed inspections in good condition.
This morning, while driving near the College, the Mercedes suddenly stalled. The owner attempted to restart the engine, but unexpectedly, the front of the car burst into flames. The damage to the front of the classic car is severe, with the body charred, leaving the owner heartbroken as he lamented that it was "beyond repair."
