A Kowloon Motor Bus (KMB) bus accident on March 19 along Tolo Highway left 11 people injured, including the driver. The KMB branch of the Motor Transport Workers General Union has raised concerns about the driver's work schedule, suggesting that improper arrangements by KMB may have contributed to the accident due to driver fatigue.
KMB management met with union representatives yesterday (March 20) and clarified that the driver's work schedule was planned based on bus routes, schedules, service hours, and the overall network. The company emphasized that mechanisms are in place to periodically optimize schedules in response to operational needs.
KMB stated that when adjusting work arrangements, efforts are made to assign similar routes and shifts to drivers, along with providing adequate time, training, and guidance to help them adapt. The company stressed that all work arrangements for drivers comply with the Transport Department's guidelines.
Regarding the requirement for drivers to inspect the cleanliness of bus compartments, KMB explained that the guidelines require drivers to check the compartment after each trip and notify cleaning staff if any waste is found.
KMB also stated that it will continue to engage with the union to understand and consider its suggestions.
