A traffic accident occurred around 3 AM today (March 23) during the implementation of dual-direction traffic in a single tunnel at Tai Lam Tunnel. Two taxis collided head-on inside the tunnel, resulting in light injuries to both drivers, who were sent to the hospital for treatment.

Traffic in the tunnel was temporarily obstructed.

The incident happened at 3:58 AM while the tunnel operated under the One-tube-two-way operation towards Yuen Long. The leftmost lane was open for vehicles heading to Yuen Long, the middle lane was closed, and the third lane was open for vehicles traveling towards Kowloon, with traffic lights indicating directions for drivers.

During this time, a taxi heading towards Yuen Long mistakenly entered the closed middle lane. Upon noticing oncoming headlights ahead, the driver attempted to switch to the third lane in the wrong direction, resulting in a head-on collision with another taxi traveling towards Kowloon. The taxi that entered the wrong lane was propelled into the air, with its front end spinning before coming to a stop, and both vehicles sustained significant front-end damage.

Paramedics responded promptly, and both taxi drivers were found to be injured but conscious and were sent to Yan Chai Hospital for treatment. Police are currently investigating the cause of the accident. The incident caused temporary traffic congestion in both directions of the Tai Lam Tunnel.
