On March 14, U.S. President Donald Trump ordered significant reductions in the size of the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM). Starting March 15, over 1,300 employees of Voice of America (VOA), a subsidiary of USAGM, were forced into "administrative leave." At the same time, USAGM halted funding for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE) and Radio Free Asia (RFA).
Media outlets like Voice of America have long been viewed as the U.S. government's voice for international propaganda. However, Trump and his allies, including Elon Musk, have criticized these media organizations for wasting taxpayer money.
