In springtime Hong Kong, layers of gentle fog rise over the sea, shrouding Victoria Harbour in a dreamy embrace. Since the start of March, mesmerizing sea fog resembling a fairyland has frequently appeared, captivating photographers and residents alike.
On March 13, the Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) shared a Facebook post featuring stunning photos of sea fog over Victoria Harbour taken by netizens earlier this month.
In the post, HKO explained that early spring in HK is often influenced by warm and humid maritime airflows, leading to widespread coastal fog. The mist draping around skyscrapers creates a surreal and ethereal scene, making the harbour appear like a "city in the sky."

According to the weather forecast released by HKO at 9:45 a.m. on March 14, a humid easterly airflow is currently affecting the coastal areas of Guangdong. Visibility in HK was reduced to below 3,000 meters earlier this morning due to thick fog. Additionally, a cloud band covering the coastal region and northern South China Sea has intensified the foggy conditions.
HKO also included a link on its official website to its "Fog Explanation" section, offering a detailed description of the spring fog formation process to enhance public understanding of this natural phenomenon.
