The World Snooker Grand Prix 2025 began on March 4 at the Kai Tak Sports Park, but the event encountered criticism when organizers unexpectedly asked spectators to leave after a frame was completed around 11:15 p.m. due to time limitations.
The second match of the evening, featuring Kyren Wilson against Matthew Selt, was running behind schedule, with the score tied at 2-2. A message was shown on the venue's screen, stating that, due to local curfew regulations, the arena needed to be cleared by midnight. It urged all attendees to exit immediately after the current frame and reminded them to consider the last available transportation options.
The event organizers have since apologized for the incident and offered compensation. Ticket holders can exchange their stubs for tickets of equal value.
The Consumer Council has received seven complaints so far, including issues related to the early exit request.
In response, Kai Tak Sports Park stated today (March 5) that it has been in close communication with the event organizers and stakeholders. The venue management emphasized its commitment to providing appropriate facilities and services required for the smooth execution of events. While understanding fans' desire to watch complete matches, the venue assured that it is actively working with organizers to enhance the viewing experience for future attendees.
Under the organizers' arrangement, ticket holders for the March 4, 7:30 p.m. session can exchange their stubs for tickets of equal value between March 5 and March 6 (10:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.). In the following days, ticket holders will be allowed to attend matches until the tournament concludes.
In the event of late-night matches, spectators are encouraged to use overnight bus services along Prince Edward Road. Additionally, the venue and organizers have arranged transportation for fans from Kai Tak Sports Park to Mong Kok, a nearby transportation hub, to facilitate their journey home.
