The Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Rosanna Law, stated today (March 4) that the authorities are working hard to facilitate overseas football teams to visit Hong Kong this summer. As a football fan herself, she is also looking forward to it and will announce any news when available.
Law noted that countries and regions around the world hope to attract the best performers to their locations. Some performers choose Hong Kong, while others opt for the Mainland, Macao, Singapore, etc. This is normal, and she believes that healthy competition and diversity are positive. She is confident that Hong Kong's Kai Tak Sports Park will be very popular.
She continued, mentioning that the National Games of China will be held at the end of this year. If it goes well, it will demonstrate Hong Kong's capability to host large-scale sports events within the Greater Bay Area city cluster. Regarding to the voices suggesting that Hong Kong could bid for the Asian Games or even the Olympics, she believes it's possible. However, beyond hardware support, financial viability must also be ensured before considering a bid, she added.
Starting tomorrow (March 5), some facilities at the Kai Tak Sports Park will be open for public reservation, with some requiring fees. For instance, the running track at Kai Tak Youth Sports Ground will charge HK$18 per person after 5 pm. Law mentioned that "running enthusiasts" hope to enjoy a higher-level training environment for a modest fee, and feedback indicates that the pricing level is acceptable.
